The Internet, often referred to as ‘the Net’, consists of a complex network of computers connected by a high-speed communications system. It allows easy access to a vast amount of information stored at many different sites around the world. No one ‘owns’ or controls the Internet, and each organisation, company or government is responsible for maintaining its own part of the network.
