ECDL
The European Computer Driving Licence
The European Computer Driving Licence, also known as ECDL, is a Europe wide IT qualification aimed at novice or intermediate computer users wishing to prove or improve their computer skills for personal or career purposes.
Who is it For?
ECDL is ideal for people who want to gain a basic IT qualification, for whatever reason, such as improving their career prospects or just to brush up on their computer skills. It is also an ideal platform from which to develop your skills, and perhaps go on to gain other IT qualifications. It is particularly suited to those who require the utmost flexibility in their learning due to other personal or work commitments.
What will I Learn?
The ECDL consists of a number of modules, which can be combined in different ways to allow learners alternative routes to the ECDL.
The ECDL is available in Scotland as a single qualification consisting of seven modules. These are:
- Security of IT Users
- IT User Fundamentals
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- Database Software
- Presentation Software
- Using Email and the Internet
The ECDL, however, can be broken down into two levels; ECDL Essentials and ECDL Extra.
ECDL Essentials consists of three modules:
- IT User Fundamentals
- Using Email and the Internet
- Security of IT Users
ECDL Extra consists of four modules:
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- Presentation Software
- Improving Productivity Using IT
These can be taken separately to obtain single certificates, or combined together to achieve the overall ECDL qualification.
Is it a Qualification?
Yes, ECDL, ECDL Essentials and ECDL Extra are recognised qualifications not only in the UK but also across Europe. They are underwritten by the Chartered Institute for IT and are becoming widely recognised qualifications by employers and industry.
How Much Does it Cost?
There are various price options depending on how you decide to gain the ECDL and how you combine modules. It is best to speak to the LogintoLearn Officer in your nearest LogintoLearn Centre.
