BBC WebWise
WebWise has been produced by the BBC and is an online course that lets you get to grips with the internet at your own pace. It also leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
Who Is it For?
WebWise is particularly suited to people who are new to the
internet, but would like to find out more. It is an online course and most
people take around 10 hours to complete it.
What will I Learn?
By completing WebWise you will gain skills in:
- Connecting to the internet
- Bookmarking
- Emailing
- Compiling your own address book
- Using search engines
- Building a basic web page
The course uses animations, games, and quick quizzes and is a fun way to learn about the world wide web!
Is it a Qualification?
Yes, WebWise is a nationally recognized qualification,
and having received your WebWise certificate, you will have a component towards
one of the following IT qualifications:
- City and Guilds 7261 Information Technology
- Edexcel BTEC Foundation Award in IT (Desktop Skills)
- LCCIEB Practical Computing
- NCFE Certificate in Telematics: Basics
- NOCN Intermediate Award in Internet Skills
- OCR Certificate for New CLAIT
- SQA Internet Basics
How Much Does it Cost?
Through North Lanarkshire Council's Libraries and Information
Service, completing WebWise is free.
What Learning Support is Available?
All our LogintoLearn staff will be able
to help you develop the skills you need to successfully complete WebWise. In
addition all our LogintoLearn Centres have a range of learning materials you
will be given to support your work and some packs are available to take home.
